La provincia di Massa Carrara, situata nel nord della Toscana, ai confi ni con Emilia Romagna e Liguria, trova nel mare e nelle Alpi Apuane gli elementi caratterizzanti del proprio territorio. The characteristic features of the territory of the Province of Massa Carrara, situated in the north of Tuscany,on the borders with Emilia Romagna and Liguria, are the sea and the Apuan Alps. The broad beaches, wild and peaceful in the winter season, come to life with colours and voices in the fi rst warm days of spring, and offer modern fullyequipped bathing establishments in the summer. Just a stone’s throw from the sea, the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps is a paradise for nature lovers and excursionists, in both winter and summer, offering the possibility of staying overnight in comfortable mountain shelters. Unique of their kind in the world, in the heart of the Apuan Alps the spectacular quarries of white marble open up like a lunar landscape before the eyes of visitors; entering the very heart of the mountain we can actually touch the precious stone that was the favourite raw material of artists such as Michelangelo and Canova.
In the plains below, it is possible to see this marble becoming art in the hands of skilled craftsmen. From nature to art, the Province of Massa Carrara preserves intact its traditions and its artistic, historic and cultural heritage. The combination of sea and mountains which so strongly characterises the Province of Massa Carrara, also extends to the cuisine: excellent fish on the coast, and typical specialities known the world over in the hinterland. To mention just a few examples: the famous Colonnata lard, the lamb from Zeri, the panigacci and testaroli of Lunigiana, the DOC wines of the Candia hills: genuine products, raw materials of the very fi rst quality ,and a food and wine tradition which distinguishes the entire territory of the Province.



Die im Norden der Toskana an der Grenze zu Emilia Romagna und Ligurien gelegene Provinz Massa Carrara findet im Meer und den Apuanischen Alpen ihre charakteristischen Elemente. Die in den Wintermonaten wilden und einsamen breiten Strände werden schon in der ersten Frühlingswärme durch Stimmen und Farben belebt und bieten im Sommer moderne und gut ausgerüstete Badeanstalten. Gleich hinter dem Meer liegt der Regionalpark der Apuanischen Alpen, sowohl im Sommer als auch im Winter ein Paradies für Naturliebhaber und Wanderfreunde, mit Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten in komfortablen Berghütten. Le territoire de la province de Massa Carrara, située au nord de la Toscane, aux confins de l’Émilie-Romagne et de la Ligurie, est caractérisé par la présence de la mer et des Alpes Apuanes. Les amples plages, sauvages et tranquilles en hiver, s’animent de voix et de couleurs dès les premières chaleurs du printemps et offrent, durant l’été, des établissements balnéaires modernes et équipés. À deux pas de la mer, le Parc Régional des Alpes Apuanes est un paradis pour les passionnés de la nature et des randonnées pédestres, aussi bien en été qu’en hiver, et offre la possibilité de passer la nuit dans de confortables refuges.
